Last night I attended a yoga instructor discussion group where we were posed with the idea of mind-body connection vs. full-body presence vs. is there any difference between the two terms. Â People do yoga for all kinds of reasons and I often hear instructors talk about how much philosophy and yoga away from a purely physical practice they SHOULD instill into the practice they offer their clients. Â I hear/see this in IRL and online teaching groups with some frequency. If you practice yoga with a teacher you probably have a wide variety of what you have experienced in this arena.
We started our discussion with a short video featuring Matthew Sanford who mentors an instructor I know working in Adaptive Techniques. Â Please watch and be humbled + inspired.
In my own yoga journey I became an instructor after doing a 200-hour certification where I had no intention of becoming an instructor. Â I did the program to gain more mobility following a car accident and 18-months of physical rehabilitation – the instructor part came about to help empower others in their own journeys once I realized how powerful my practice had become to me.
I am not saying that yoga is the ONLY avenue to achieve powerful connections between your mental, energetic, emotional, and physical bodies – but it is one I am proud to know that people are actively working to help others ranging from star athletes to those who have suffered severe mobility and emotional setbacks.
For more information on Adaptive Yoga see Matthew Sanford’s Mind Body Connections. Â If you are in Denver keep an eye on the schedule for workshops such as the one Liza Aslor is co-facilitating this weekend at Samadhi.
And as far as comments – how awesome is Matthew Sanford for the work he is bringing into the mainstream? Any experiences with this? Do you agree that this is real healthcare reform?

Wow! Thank you so much for sharing this! It is really amazing what people can do no matter what it thrown their way. This is totally legitimate. Healing comes in all forms and it needs to. There is no one way to be healthy and there is no one way to understand the body. Thanks for sharing this. What a joy.
If I am repeating myself i’m sorry. My computer experienced an error. I really do this this is a great way to advance health care. People need health in so many different ways and we need to realize there are also so many different ways to give it! This is stunning and a joy to see. It’s great the advancement in peoples mind and ideas are helping more and more people. Thanks for sharing.
He is so inspiring! Have you read his book? A goodie!!
What a cool thing, a yoga teacher discussion group. I wish we had more of those or yoga teacher get togethers here.
