food poisoning, blech!

My “happy” but tired VLAWG

I was on 2 hours of sleep here.  My husband got food poisoning the night before and it was a long 24 hours.  He got to soak in a pool for a little bit before he realized he needed to hunker down in our room.  He kept me up all night and I took off to the pools in the morning after I soothed him back to sleep with a back rub.  I drove us back to Denver and still had to teach yoga later that night.  By Tuesday I was wiped and quite honestly had a day of sloth yesterday.  I ate too much and did not exercise at all.  It somehow felt right after being worked the day before.

So it is bootstrap Wednesday now and I am planning what remains of the week.  My poor husband is still not back to 100% himself and has officially declared he will be a “vacation vegetarian.”  Poor guy.  This is a good opportunity to tweak a few things to cleanse and keep food really simple as his digestive tract gets back in order.

For his meals I am keeping them simple with more easily digestible foods (not much fiber).  Tonight we will have the avocado, carrot, and almond butter rolls with some miso soup.  We were supposed to eat this last night but he could not handle it.  We will take it day by day to see how he is feeling, so no long-term planning for food right now.

For exercise I am going to swim, jump on a cardio machine and strength-train today.  Tomorrow is an early a.m. run. Friday is a long afternoon run after I teach a yoga class.  Saturday will be a morning run with a running group and Sunday is hopefully more swimming but with my husband if he is up for it.  At this point he has lost about 7 pounds since Sunday night.  I am hoping he puts that weight back on in a good way by the weekend.

Last night I was on a panel to discuss “heart health” on twitter.  I hope many of my readers know about heart disease and the toll it takes on women (#1 killer of women vs. combining all cancers).  After the party I was reading about a new report that came out about women not showing typical chest symptoms when having heart attacks, especially when they are younger (under 55) thus being less likely to be treated for a heart attack.  Geez.  Readers, do what you can to maximize your health and get those check-ups to check on your cholesterol and other necessary tests.  Our highly processed diet in America is taking a toll on way too many of our communities.  There are a number of organizations working to inform people about the toll of heart disesase…. please check out Go Red for Women if you have not already.  I am linking their logo below to their heart check up questionnaire.

Avocados are one of my favorite foods! Love them in my salads 🙂
