VLAWG

So much better. Like night and day, really. Now it is a matter of not beating myself up over feeling so “soft” with a month of dormancy. Like I said in the vlog… I had a pity party for 1/2 of it and did not honor my body with food like I should have. However, in the second half of that time I ate well and learned some fun raw food tricks along the way.

I think the funniest quote of the month was my husband saying, “Why in the f*ck is “rice” in quotes?!?” He was referring to a raw cookbook where rice was made from cashews. He loves the veggies but couldn’t understand why rice was suddenly considered “bad” or something. I still get the giggles at his outrage.

This past week has been a week of self-care. I am still seeing a chiropractor but can actually sleep through the night now which is a big victory. I also went to a Russian banya this week… sauna, beat with wet oak leaves, cold pool plunge, full-body honey mask, shower, then an integrated massage with a number of techniques. At one point this small woman was standing on me with my hands pulling behind me and my torso arching like a bow. Yowza… it all felt great. It is a good thing my back in alignment again to take that. Tomorrow I am getting a mani/pedi with some girlfriends I have not hung out with for a while.

O.k., the blogging carnival. I don’t always participate but I have to this week… NEW BALANCE. You all do not understand my love of them. Their trainer Holly Perkins is full of so much integrity with getting the best science and information to her clients. Also the brand does strength shoes which are awesome for crossfit, my super fave Minimus Trail for running around on CO trails, the lovely 890s for a neutral runner, and an oh so sweet ANUE line for yoga. I have about 7 pieces from their yoga line that I wear a lot! And they have a BODHI pant that rocks my socks off.

How would you brand your health and wellness lifestyle? How do you want others to know you in this area?

For me it is all about setting my foundation with my personal responsibility (exercise, nutrition, rest, hydration, stress reduction) so that I can maximize my joy (playing, laughing, loving, etc.).

This post is sponsored by New Balance and I’m writing this to be entered into a giveaway hosted by Mamavation – a community dedicated to obesity prevention & weight loss for women

  1. I am so excited to see you smile! I have totally missed you being you. I’m glad that your back is finally behaving somewhat as it should. I’m so sorry I couldn’t be there to rub your behind like you did for me.

    Great snack ideas 🙂

You are a wonderful amazing strong woman and an awesome inspiration to me!

  2. I think I”m out of the loop. What happened to your back? I couldn’t see your vlog for some reason. Kept trying but it just wouldn’t come up. Miss you and wanted to stop by. XXOO

  3. Hey! I’m glad you’re starting to feel like yourself again! I, too, am participating this week. I have a customer service story I’ve wanted to tell about New Balance for a while and I just haven’t gotten around to it. Anywho, I giggled at your husband’s outrage about “rice”.
    Have a great week!

  4. I love your husband’s outrage at “rice”. And cool that the restaurant person liked your dish 🙂 Hope you can get your legs under this week. 🙂

And I have a special place in my heart for New Balance shoes because they were the first nice sneakers I could find in my size (women’s sneakers instead of men’s) when I played volleyball in high school.

  5. I LOVE how you are vlogging every week. Sorry you hurt your back. We are the best at giving ourselves pitty party and allowance to not exercise and eat healthy. It’s fantastic though you realized it. I need to hang out on your blog more often. A.) your philosophy is totally in line with our family philosophy. Healthy living, green, eco, etc. B.) you live where I dream of living. Boulder is on the top of our list. Visited one summer and fell in love with it. Pearl street, north face, prAna. I can’t get enough of the beauty and outdoor activities.

  6. Glad you’re feeling better! Love that you provided alternatives to ice cream for your event. If there was only ice cream people may have eaten it so they didn’t make you feel bad. Besides the fact that your guests probably expected some healthy alternatives, its a great way to show that a healthy lifestyle can include ‘junk food’.

    1. Thanks. It was a #nintendoenthused sponsored party so they provided all the toppings (bags of candy, containers of sprinkles, bottles of syrup, bowls, and gift certificates for Cold Stone Ice Cream. It was their way to tie into one of the mini-games within the Wiii Play Motion game. Having a non-caffinated tea, apples, and air-popped popcorn was my way to balance what they had planned.

  7. I have not heard of a Russian banya, but now I want to try it. That sounds like it would ease my tense muscles. Hopefully your back keeps recovering. Good luck this week!

  8. I’m glad your back is feeling better & I think it’s awesome that your trying out raw recipes, I’m going to have to try some out!

    1. I gotta say I am loving Ani Phyo’s approach to raw. I have been loving the heck out of her raw asian book lately. It even includes a section on how to open a coconut.
