Postnatal Taebo Review

At 5 weeks 1 day I popped Billie Blanks Postnatal Power: Taebo Workout in and got to the workout. I gotta say it was a nice way to get some activity going after having a baby.

My only CON is that depending on how recently you had your baby you need to be concerned about how wide you spread your legs away from the midline of your pelvis. Upon recovery from birth your pelvic floor needs a good deal of recovery. Shellie does not mention any sort of caution like this until the lower-body focus towards the end of the DVD when you are doing lunges. Just be cautious of this part of your body from the start.

So let me get on to all of the pros:

– Great tempo so I could focus on my mind/body awareness without feeling taxed. Every time I began to work it was time to “walk it out” or side step or march.

– Great for balance. Balance is one coordination element that suffers during pregnancy. I did a lot of yoga and did not lose it so it was a non-issue but there are some safe balancing elements in this DVD.

– Options of a long full-workout or focus on certain body parts. My baby napped and I was able to workout the full hour but could have done the DVD in segments of warm-up, upper body, core, lower body or cardio.

-Simple moves are not too complicated. I am new to taebo and do not have a dance background so get easily intimidated by coordinated moves. However, keeping up with this DVD was easy. If I can do it, you can too.

– You work, but not so much you are spent. Many parts of my body are weaker following my awesome home birth then 5 weeks of basically sitting and recovering. I especially felt the lunges and leg lifts.

I highly recommend this video to recovering moms. Shellie made this at 10 weeks post-partum and is a rock star. I was able to do it at 5 with no issue. Know your body and be gentle as you get back into the swing of things. I will most likely do this video for two weeks before I venture on to a non post-partum workout.
