Baby’s First Camping Trip

I was working with a female-centered outdoor non-profit tonight at the Banff Film Festival. While hanging with some gear vendors and other outdoor organizations I was asked about when the baby is going on its first adventure. I had to think. Wow, I had not thought about this.

Then I thought it through. There is no reason baby cannot go car camping before the summer is over if it is healthy, I am healthy, and we are recovering smoothly.

Damn you Banff! Now I got baby camping on the brain!! I know people do this with young babies and am thinking about logistics and where we should make car camping reservations. Naturally I found a Colorado-based resource all about getting outside with your young children… Outdoor Baby. They even have a piece on camping in your 3rd trimester that I will be following. I mean hey, I backpacked 8 weeks into this pregnancy, why not?

On a related note I got to peep some of The North Face’s line for next winter with a niche carved out for babies. Their rep said their sponsored athletes having kids were asking for gear for their little ones instead of having to buy Patagonia gear. I really wish I would have taken pics but I saw one earth tone “shearling-like” bunting with black accents that will retail for about $80. It was drool-worthy and will work well for a Colorado baby whose parents take it for hikes on cold days.
