I have had a great first day of 2010. I stayed out and did not crawl into bed until 3:30 this morning. See this other site to learn about my night.
I will tell you about my day here…
I was up by 7:30 a.m. By 10 a.m. I was fully-functioning and off for a 90 minute special New Year yoga class taught by my prenatal yoga certification mentor and another women whose special workshops I have attended before.
The studio was packed! 40 students, 2 teachers. There was only a 6″ space between my mat and the surrounding mats. It was good. We chanted, did asanas, and ended with rolling “om” sounds. Class was so much fun for me because I am 16 weeks, it was not prenatal, and I was given space to work on my own modifications with my prenatal mentor (and woman I will be subbing for this year) not far from me.
After class we had a chance to talk about why I did some movements in the way I did them and refused to do others she thought I would do. I love the collaborative process with her. My body also feels great from the asana practice.
After class I was able to help a friend who was looking for some recreation equipment for her visiting relative. It felt good to be there for someone who is such a giving person in my community.
For dinner (which was supposed to be lunch but I was procrastinating) we had a great veggie soul food good luck feast.
The menu:
Hip Hoppin’ John (minus greens, with red pepper, sub smoked tempeh for smoked tofu)
Whole Grain Cornbread Muffins (sub olive oil for butter if you want, I also used polenta instead of cornmeal)
Sauteed Greens (sliced shallot and heat in 1/4 c. veggie broth, add chopped red chard minus mid-rib to sautee, season with fresh pepper, splash of vinegar, and drizzle of sesame oil)
Basically I played hard, worked out hard, was of service to someone, and ate well. I also have had a great day hanging out with my husband, swoon.
The other exciting detail of the New Year is that potential #Mamavation moms are abound on twitter and their blogs for the next two weeks. If you are a mom trying to improve your health and fitness then look at the program I am proud to be supporting. There are some great women trying to do impressive feats with their bodies. Good luck ladies!!!

I recently came accross your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I dont know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
