I don’t go on about this topic too much but it is something never far from my mind. I grew up poor and had many handouts from programs and people in my youth. My father held a steady job for 45+ years before his retirement but we were the working middle class homeless at times.
I cringe when I hear of children going hungry at school (that was me at times), I cringe when I hear of kids being cold because they do not have adequate clothing quality (that never happened to me – thank you Southern California climate!). As an adult I am quick to help when I can in a way to give back because I know it was more than just my parents that helped raise me.

Today I want to spotlight Coats for Colorado. It is a program where people donate new or gently used coats for people in need. I am donating at least three coats from my closet this year. Dependable Cleaners is a donation drop-off that cleans the coats before they make their way to the recipients. You may not live in Colorado but if you live somewhere cold believe me that there may be people in need of such a gift this year (especially with our economy still in the crapper). See what donation program exists in your area.
