Our Boulder Baby Day

On Saturday my husband and I headed to some of our local businesses to do a little research as we prep to register and take care of other baby matters like our home birth material checklist. Here is our “tour” of the area:

Bundle Baby Shop: Cloth Diapers and Green Gear

A good friend had been telling us a lot about this place for a while. They supply the homebirth kit required by my midwife for $70. Their organic cloth diapering service is only $23/week which includes delivery and pick-up. The store is small but there are a lot of quality items in this space. Here are three things that caught my eye ..

After Bundle we went a few blocks away to Wishgarden Herbs. This business is known for herbal products with an impressive selection of pregnancy and new mama items. Our midwife’s home birth checklist requires lactation tea, Afterbirth sitzbath herbs, and mastitis remedy tincture from this store. Even though I will see if the MilkMaid Tea I received from the #bfcafe will be acceptable. Here is a shot of the simple layout from this shop.

The next stop was Rebecca’s Apothecary

This was not for a baby run today but this store has been really good to me during my pregnancy. They made several midwife recommendations when I asked, that included the great woman we picked. They have been helping me with teas and various holistic remedies during my six months. They even remembered me and my husband with one employee commenting that Saturday was the first day she could tell I was pregnant this whole pregnancy (they even know the sweetest things to say). I highly recommend this business whether you are looking for teas, books on holistic topics, skin care, containers, etc. On Saturday I was there to pick up some supplies because I am changing my skin care routine.

Next up was a quick spot of tea at Atlas Purveyors where my husband and I had sat to work on a draft of our mood board for the baby the day before… sort of the activity that set off the motivation for our Baby Day.

We realized we were hungry so set off for Tibet Kitchen which is the lunch recommendation we had told the woman at Bundle about. I got the lunch I recommended to her a while back, Ngo Tsel Tofu (Tofu and Bokchoy).

Next up was Ellie’s Eco Home Store to check out the Children and Baby section and start our first registry. It is a fun registry process, old school, a paper, clipboard and pen. This place is like a traditional home store, just with a bent. When you walk in there are refill stations for common household cleaners so you don’t have to buy a new piece of plastic.

The baby/kids section is well stocked

One of the things I like best is that there are some of the toys they sell out in the play space to keep kids occupied and test out.

We did register for the Green Toys Cookware and Dining Set here.

My hubby surprised me by wanting these socks

In the same parking lot as Ellie’s is Becoming Mothers

My favorite thing there for me is the Born Fit Elyse Maternity Jacket.**

This store has all the slings they carried ready for you to try on. They are the only store I have seen with the variety ready for the consumer to try on. Real Baby and Bundle will take them out of their box, but it was nice to already have them out and not have to worry about putting them back in.

At the end of the day when we returned home we started our Bundle baby registry online. My only issue with their registry is that it only ties to one name and you have to be exact in the search term for name. So I can do my name OR my husband’s name OR a combo of our names but our friends/family will have to get that term exact. I am pretty annoyed by this since I never took my husband’s last name and we have different sets of friends. So while I love this store, love their products, I am having some issues with their registry set-up.

In terms of registry we may also do Real Baby. We will definitely also do Target as a more conventional registry and New American Dream for the DIYers and folks who would rather do us a favor (e.g. cooking, babysitting, etc.)

**Born Fit is also Colorado-based business

Where in Colorado do you live? I am totally impressed with the quality of the stores! I can't say enough good things about Aden + Anais swaddles – they are a great multi-use item.

Also I am a BIG fan of natural skin care solutions so if you ever want to geek out with me and compare notes just let me know.

Great post! Looks like you had fun and accomplished hitting some of the greatest places in Boulder for an expecting family! Nice photos and descriptions. We can't wait until the babies (ours and yours) will be here!

Nice blog post, Kia! I plan to start with the bundle organic diaper service for the first few months at leas, and then I'll see if I'm up for washing my own.

You mentioned that Ellie's has the slings and carriers out of the package so you can try them on and it made me think about http://www.becomingmothers.com/ which you have to check out, too! They have everything out of the box to try and touch, etc., and they're also a very good resource for any breastfeeding supplies, questions, gear, etc. and the store is locally owned by a lactation consultant.

    Happy pregnancy and baby!

  5. We really loved our aden + anais swaddlers. They are very large and still get used in our rotation. Since you will have a warm weather baby the light muslin fabric is a great thing (my boy sweated like crazy with the standard flannel blankets in ATL Sept weather).

Target sells a 4-pack of them for about $25 in store. I believe they are the same large size (although the prints aren't as cute as those in the link!).
