VLOG, big, fun week coming up!!! Also thank you everyone for your Mamavation campaign support!
**For Greta, that is the fleece vest I workout in as I cold-weather train in Colorado during fall, winter, and spring.
I am thrilled about the half-marathon. I have been thrilled since I signed up for it. If you weren’t around mamavation back then this is me registering for it when I was super preggo.
I am not prepped for it due to the tight schedule since baby and a wacky September but honestly it is a good thing I had to take it easy that month. Who knows why the fate gods do what they do. No matter I am thrilled to go out and play 13.1 miles next Sunday. Also, no need for a playlist since it is a Rock n’ Roll event with live music every mile on the course. Besides I don’t listen to music when I run unless I am on a track or going around the reservoir (which is like a track) as part of my personal safety.
My strategy is going to be to treat the half like a heart rate monitor training session via folks like Phil Maffetone and Mark Allen.
I mentioned in the post I meal planned for this week already and we have been shoppping today. I don’t usually share what I eat through the week since I don’t plan it out in advance but here is an example of a typical week for us. br=breakfast, lu=lunch, di=dinner
Sunday: br=quinoa w/ nuts + fruit, lu=sammy + salad w/ grilled veggies, di=dinner with friends (homecooked with some vegetarian friends)
Monday: br=?, lu=tuna sammich w/ salad, di=tamarind lentils w/ brown rice
Tuesday: br=?, lu=?, di=pork chops, no-mayo potato salad, green beans
Wednesday: br=poached egg on toast w/ fruit, lu=tamarind lentils w/ rice, di=lentil soup
Thursday: br=?, lu=big ass salad, di=rice, beans, avocado, salsa, tortillas, grilled squash
Friday: br=?, lu=?, di=poached egg open face sammich, roasted potatoes, smoothies
Sat: br=?, lu=?, di=pre-race pasta dinner (via local restaurant)
My breakfasts are usually 1) whatever left over grains we have with spices, fruit or veggies, and nuts 2) raw yogurt w/ nuts or in a smoothie 3) sprouted wheat bread with egg. I do whatever I have a hankerin for. My lunch question marks are generally leftovers, a salad or a sammich (oven roasted turkey)
Our bread is sprouted bread for max nutrition. Our dairy is raw from a local dairy that we own a cow share from.
My workouts for the last week were great. I got out to pit-pat my little feet a good deal. I lifted with P90X 3 days. I taught two yoga classes this week. One class I was doing a lot of modification for students so didn’t get to work my body that much, in the second I got to crank on my own body a lot and my back is feeling exceptionally strong right now.
I am thrilled in that I now have another workout partner. A good friend of ours has been working out a lot and did a few races this year but looking to up his game to do his first tri next year. I have some great weight training experience and have done a half ironman so we have decided to workout together. He is also open to heart rate monitor training. With the weather changing he is down to hit the weight room with me and do some reservoir runs to build to our 50,000+ participant 10K in our town next Memorial Day. We have similar time/mile goals so it seems like a great fit. I can’t tell you how stoked I am at the prospect of training with him. He has an extreme personality and nothing will make me happier than to “crush it” with him. We also like smack-talking one another for motivation 😛
Stats for this week are that I lost .5 pounds. I expect to have a gain next week with the half coming up. I am not very well trained up for it and know myself. I’ll put on some fuel food, “slog it out”, and be re-couped with those fuel stores. If I were really running it I could see a loss but I know what to expect.
In looking at the posts from the past week I saw folks were finding a reason to be real with themselves and re-commit. I’m doing what I can to prep for the half next week and will do my “reality check” post next week. I have been seeing the Commit 2 Fit Campaign in Subway stores recently in conjunction with Jared training for the NYC marathon. I think they are doing a beautiful thing engaging so many patrons who eat their food to think mindfully about their fitness as well. I love this journey I am on with all of you, and love the power of our sistahood.

Good luck with your run next week. I know I don't need to tell you to have fun because you will 🙂 Enjoy the trail, the music and seeing your hub and babe waiting for you as you cross the finish line!
Oh yeah…love the lunch that is a "big ass salad", very technical term 🙂
Earthy crunchy eating! I need to do more of that. Love how you roll with the punches. Instead of being competitive, you're being realistic, and you're making the run what you need for it to be. Training run and fun!
Congrats on the loss. Nice boobs. I miss my giant, round nursing mama boobs. Awesome on getting a training partner! I need to find one too, but I am so freaking slow. I would want to train with someone faster, but they would get really bored. Ha ha.
Thanks! I get my very own shout out! That's what my vest looks like too! Also, realized this week that I like running without music. Go figure.
You look like the epitome of cool with your mug, lol.
Congrats on the loss and having a workout partner, I think I may have found mine.
Best of luck to you on your mamavation mom bid! *fingers crossed*

I'd love to hear more about the "treating the half like a heart rate monitor training session via folks like Phil Maffetone and Mark Allen" … Im confused but it sounds interesting!
I am super proud of you for attempting this half marathon so quickly after having a baby! Im sooooo not in shape to run, so it seems like a BIG deal to me, baby or not! Have fun and kick butt hun!

Hope to see your name up on the finalists tonight!! Lots of luck with the half marathon, man that came up fast! Good job creating a meal plan. I am terrible at that, especially for breakfast and lunches.
I wish you cooked for me. If I ever come to live in Colorado, we'll eat at your house. 🙂
Having a training partner will be awesome! Good luck in your half next weekend – I can't wait to hear all about it! Have a great week!
I love love love sprouted grain bread. Especially the bagels. I need to do a meal plan too. Usually I just plan what I'm making that day, or at most the night before.
