#bfcafe, Best for Babes, and other Bewbie Musings

Bewbies are on my mind. I have mentioned before I raised an infant for a while, my niece. I had her for 17 months and she came with some horrible baggage I wouldn’t wish on any child. Raising a baby does not intimidate me. The things I did not do include birth her and breastfeed her. These are two topics I have been trying to educate myself on as much as possible before I have my own baby in a couple of months.

A couple of weeks ago I stumbled on the #bfcafe on Thursday nights 10EST. If you don’t know about it then follow @zealandsmom and check out her blog. Imagine an educated forum of moms in the trenches and specialist navigating the waters of this topic together, there is some engaging dialogue especially for a newbie like me. The chat is posted weekly and there is an RSVP to attend for giveaways. I RSVPd my first time to help with numbers even though I did not want any of the sponsored Be Nice Prenatal product that night. Don’t get me wrong, this is a great product, I consider myself friends with their social media rep, but it just isn’t for me (see my review on about.com). What I did not see linked to the RSVP page that night was that it was apparently the first official #bfcafe and there was another prize… a big basket courtesy of Best for Babes. At the end of the night, I won the basket I did not know was available.

Let this be a lesson to everyone, be sincere and genuine in your social media dealings because it may come back to reward ya. This is one of the most generous baskets I have seen and I really want every single product in here. These products are also basically what they recommend picking up at 8 months pregnancy on their breastfeeding checklist/timeline via the link on their front page.

I need to give some background on the organization that sent it, they are Best for Babes.

Our Mission: To help moms beat the “Booby Traps“–the cultural & institutional barriers that prevent moms from achieving their personal breastfeeding goals. To inspire, prepare & empower™ moms. To change how we view & support breastfeeding (giving it a makeover) and give moms the solutions they need to make it work!

And they, like @zealandsmom, are working to empower women on our right to nourish our babies. I encourage you to check out their website and just look through the links on their home page as resources whether you are starting out like me, having difficulty in your process, or wanting some camaraderie.

Finally bewbie musings… I am more excited than you know to have them as something besides a sexual attractant for others. I am a mammal, I want to use my mammaries to nourish my baby.

The book I am currently reading is (#bfcafe folks seemed to approve)

I need to watch the DVD I was sent earlier this week:

And I will be attending my 1st La Leche League meeting next month when I am at 7 months.

Now let us just hope that my body and my baby will work together to make this happen. I know enough to know that even in an ideal world this is not always the case.

Disclosure: I was not asked to review or given these products for review. This post has NOTHING to do with sponsorship.
