I just came back from my midwife’s office. At my preconception check-up a month before we conceived I was 177 pounds, as of today I am officially past my pre-pregnancy weight and at 179 pounds. I swear the scale was at 178 before it bounced to there, but it is all good. 4 weeks ago I was 174… 5 pounds in 4 weeks of the later 2nd trimester is not bad in my opinion. My fundal height is also not 25.5… which is appropriate since I am technically 25.5 weeks.

Today’s appointment was fun because my local BFF/doula was able to go with me. She is very excited to become an aunt to our little Zakumi and even showed up 30 minutes early to make sure she did not miss it. She was kind enough to take some pics.
The baby is doing fine. The heart beat was 148.
We figured out how I would glucose test since I am allergic to cane sugar and cannot do the standard glucose challenge or tolerance test. In a couple of weeks I will fast for 12 hours and go to see my midwife at 8:30 in the morning. She will finger prick me to check my glucose levels. I will then go to a yummy cafe and eat a prescribed meal of 1 whole grain pancake with maple syrup, 1 egg, and a small glass of juice. Two hours later I will get finger pricked again… and so on. My midwife really is horrible to me! Making me eat a pancake with syrup, the horror!
We also talked about phytoestrogens, eating vennison that has been checked for disease, hydration when out in crowds, modifying how I pee to really get everything out and running. I brought up running and am glad I did. Apparently she has been reading my blog and was wondering when I would mention it. I have not lied to her and have mentioned it at every appointment so it is no big deal. She does want me to stop running by next week and to look into an actual pregnancy support belt just to make sure I don’t tax my ligaments. The other thing she mentioned was turnip greens in addition to chard to get my calcium from veggies, hmmmm. I am not a huge turnip green fan but will have to dig up a great recipe for them, I’ll eat them.
Overall today was a good appointment and it was nice to see her as always. My friend that I took with me left raving about how wonderful my midwife is. I know, I mean we interviewed several and I am very happy with the care provider we selected.

So glad to hear everything went well! I was anxious for news. 🙂
Glad the doula had a good time there!
You're taking such great care of yourself, my love. <3
Yay! So glad all went well. And having a provider that you're comfortable with definitely makes things easier and less stressful.
And running…girl, you are putting us non~preggos to shame. LOL
