One Month Pre-Natal Blogging

I started this blog on the 17th last month. It has been a bittersweet time. I need to evaluate what I want to do in this space since I will keep it going. I started it as a site to jot down ideas that won’t go in my baby’s journal and to have an outlet to talk about pre-natal topics since my pregnancy was a secret at the time.

The pregnancy is no longer a secret. I am in the early stages of the second trimester. I had my 2nd prenatal appointment this week with my midwife and the baby’s heart beat is a solid 148 bpm.

The bittersweetness has been in dipping my toe into the world of the social media mommy community. I started my twitter account the day after Anissa Mayhew had her stroke so the hashtag asking for prayers for her was all over the place. I do check in with the site her husband has reactivated that Anissa used to update people on how her daughter was doing when their little one was battling cancer. Anissa is showing progress and her family and blogging world is still being brave for her. If I continue with this site or start attending BlogHer type events for my other site I hope to meet her one day.

Since then there have been joys and sads. A few pregnant women on my twitter stream have given birth and have now taken their little ones home. One woman lost her newborn days after giving birth to an undetected heart condition. That struck me pretty hard and I admire her strength and grace in the aftermath. And just this week another mother lost her toddler to a backyard pool drowning accident. The toddler’s death was cruel enough but then a band of trolls decided to do inappropriate PSA at the wrong time about the incident with horrible accusations aimed at the grieving family. Simply cruel!

I have also had great fortune this past month with some winnings, namely jewelry, an iPod, and an organic baby outfit. I will be doing posts for these items to thank the sponsors and giveaway hosts as they come in and I get them photographed.

So as I go farther into this blog journey I need to figure out what my direction will be. I am a trained biologist and yogini, I can offer commentary from these worlds and pregnancy. I like crafting and simple living. I enjoy eating wholesome foods. I am a woman of mixed race living as a minority in my real life community who loves my identity. I also like some cool toys but don’t want to make this about consumerism.

Any ideas for my blog or what you want to read will be appreciated as I pinpoint my direction. Thank you for your support this past month from twitter friends, babyfit folks, sparkpeople buddies, and my hometown online community. I do appreciate the interest you have taken in my scattered ramblings.
