Prepare: 2014

I guess I am pinpointing a couple of themes this year.  One of them is returning to a characteristic I used to have… I was that person that was prepared for anything.  It came to me as I was getting ready for Friday Night Yoga Club and hoping I would digest an egg salad sammich with no issue.

I want my body to be prepared for any adventure thrown at it from taking off for a spontaneous weekend of solo backpacking to being strong enough to take care of my family if we all get hit with a bug.  I want my gear organized for adventure (and there is a lot of gear that has been sitting in storage while I have been breeding), my travel necessities ready at a moment, paperwork in order, you name it.

I was never a Girl Scout, our boys may never do Boy Scouts, but preparation is nothing to sneeze at.

cross-country ski

In that vein my husband and I did get outside for a little bit on Sunday with our x-country skis.  We had planned to head to a resort but the -15 F temperature did not sound inviting.  Instead we stayed local to check out a few areas and mostly to do a gear check.  Gear has been checked.  At this point the only thing I want but don’t need is a new hydration pack.

This week my husband and I start some Foundation courses for a fitness facility we joined.  We are signed up for a month of Crossfit but they have other performance specific training as well as TRX workouts.  I am looking forward to easing into two weeks of Foundation.  It will be a return to a box for me, and after my iron-poor year I could use some easing into a program.  We have three evening classes this week and I have another Friday Night Yoga Club session.  I am gonna toss in some short jogs (breaking in Newtons) and maybe a long day of cross-country skiing or snowshoeing if I am caught up on a few things.

The last thing I am preparing for that is big this week and concerns the blogging world is the opening of Ignite Fitness for the Fitbloggin’ Keynote in June.  I am organizing this fun little beast again and you can see the call for speakers at Fitbloggin.

  1. Me, too! We are like twins. LOL I used to be what I called fearless but I’ve just crawled into a deep hole for the past 10 years. I want fearless back. Oh, and one of my biggest fears is ripping a big one in the middle of a quiet yoga room. 🙂

    1. Ha ha ha!! Everyone farts.

  2. You will get there!!!! Enjoy skiing!!!!

  3. Fearless and prepared for anything, I want to be that too!

    1. LOL. I would not say fearless. I have a pretty healthy respect for fear, I just try to let it control me.

  4. I wish I knew how to ski. One of these days, maybe. Great post

  5. I’m jealous of your training schedule and all out outdoor prowess!

    1. I am being a little over-the-top right now to make up for the lack of iron and energy in my life for like the last 18 months.

  6. I agree you should always be prepared. We snowboard 🙂 But skiing always looks like a lot of fun too!

  7. I wish I knew how to ski! Kudos to you and all you do!

  8. So this one time, I skiied (spelling?) and broke my thumb. Never went again. I really need to do that (it’s only been 20+ years!). 🙂

    1. That really sucks. I do not know if I would want to do it again but go on with your bad self getting back on that horse!
